Attendance in Mazhali is one record per child per day. When you mark a child’s status, their parent receives a push notification automatically — no manual messaging needed.
Where to Find Attendance
Open your class, then tap Attendance → Today. You’ll see every child enrolled in your class listed in alphabetical order.
Setting Each Child’s Status
Tap a child’s name to set their status for the day. Each status saves automatically as soon as you select it — there is no separate save button:
- Present — child is in class
- Absent — child did not come in
- Late — child arrived after the session started
- Excused — Sick — child is unwell (also set automatically if a parent submitted a sick leave request)
- Excused — Vacation — child is on a planned absence (also set automatically for vacation leave requests)
You can also add an optional note for any child — for example, “arrived at 9:30” or “picked up early by grandmother.”
Can You Change a Mark Later?
Yes. You can update any child’s attendance status at any time during the day. The last value you save is what gets recorded. Parents receive a notification on the initial mark; edits do not trigger a second notification.
Leave Requests from Parents
When a parent submits a leave request through their app, the child’s attendance is automatically set to Excused for the relevant date. You don’t need to approve or action leave requests — they take effect immediately. You’ll see an “Excused” badge on that child’s attendance row along with the reason the parent provided.
What If You Forget to Mark?
Your school admin has the ability to mark or override attendance for any child at any time. If you realise you missed a day, let your admin know and they can correct the record.
Pro Tip
Mark attendance first thing in the morning. Parents who are waiting to hear whether their child arrived safely get the notification as soon as you mark “Present” — it’s one of the most appreciated things teachers do on Mazhali.
