How to Submit a Leave Request

Need to take your child out of school? Submit a leave request in Mazhali and the teacher is notified automatically — no phone calls needed.

What Is a Leave Request?

A leave request is a formal notification to your school that your child will be absent. Instead of calling the school or sending a message, you submit it in Mazhali—and it’s instantly logged and the teacher is notified.

Why Use Leave Requests?

  • No phone calls needed: Submit anytime, even if the school is closed
  • Automatic absence marking: Your child’s attendance is automatically marked “Excused” for the requested dates
  • Creates a record: Your school has a documented absence on file
  • Peace of mind: You know the teacher knows

How to Submit a Leave Request

Step 1: Open the Attendance Screen

From your child’s profile or the home dashboard, tap Attendance. Then tap the Submit Leave button (the floating button at the bottom of the screen).

Step 2: Select Your Child

If you have multiple children, choose which child will be absent.

Step 3: Choose the Date(s)

Tap on the date(s) your child will be absent. You can select:

  • A single day, or
  • A date range (e.g., Monday through Friday for a week-long trip)

The dates will be highlighted as you select them.

Step 4: Choose a Reason

Select one of the following:

  • Sick: Your child is unwell
  • Vacation: Planned absence (family trip, personal time, etc.)

Step 5: Add a Note (Optional)

Write a brief note if helpful:

  • “Doctor’s appointment at 2 PM”
  • “Family visiting from out of town”
  • “Staying home for rest”

Notes are visible to your school’s admin and teachers.

Step 6: Submit

Tap Submit. You’ll see a confirmation message, and your request is sent.

What Happens After You Submit?

  1. Attendance is marked: Your child’s attendance is automatically set to “Excused” for those dates—no action needed from the teacher. Note: if your child was already marked present or late by the teacher for a date, the leave request will not override it. Contact your teacher or admin in that case.
  2. Teacher is notified: Your child’s teacher sees the leave request and knows to expect your child’s absence
  3. Record is kept: The leave request shows up in your child’s attendance history at school

Can You Submit for Multiple Days?

Yes! Select a start date and end date. For example, if your child is absent Monday through Wednesday, select Monday → Wednesday and submit once.

Can You Cancel a Leave Request?

Yes. If your plans change and your child will return sooner than expected, go to your child’s Attendance screen and tap the leave date to remove the request you submitted. If you need to adjust a record you didn’t submit yourself, contact your teacher or admin through Mazhali’s messaging.

Best Practices

Submit before the school day starts: Teachers plan their day knowing who’s absent, so early notice is appreciated. Submit the night before if possible.

Keep notes brief but clear: “Sick” is fine, but “Doctor’s appointment” is even better.

For emergencies: If your child becomes sick after school has started and you need to pick them up, call the school directly. Follow up with a leave request later.

Using leave requests keeps your school organized and ensures your child’s absence is properly documented. It’s one less thing to worry about!
