Why Notifications Matter
Push notifications keep you in the loop without requiring you to open the app every few minutes. They alert you to important updates as they happen, so you stay informed about your child’s day and school activities.
What Triggers a Notification for Parents?
Attendance Updates
You get a notification when:
- Your child is marked present when they arrive at school
- Your child is marked absent (unexcused absence)
- Your child is marked late (arrival after the start time)
Example: “Aisha was marked present at 8:45 AM”
Daily Report Ready
A notification tells you when the teacher posts the daily report (mood, meals, nap, activities, photos).
Example: “Daily report for Aisha is ready”
New Feed Posts
When a teacher posts a photo or update that includes your child, you get a notification.
Example: “You have a new update in the feed”
Calendar Events
Notifications alert you to new calendar events:
- School-wide events (closures, holidays, special days)
- Your child’s class events (field trips, special performances)
Example: “Calendar event: Field trip to the zoo on June 15”
New Messages
When a teacher or admin sends you a message, you get a notification.
Example: “New message from Teacher Sarah”
How to Enable Notifications
On iOS (Apple) — iPhone app coming soon
The Mazhali iPhone app is coming soon. If you’re using Mazhali as a PWA on your iPhone (installed from Safari via “Add to Home Screen”), notification support follows browser permissions — see the In Your Browser section below.
On Android (Google)
- Open Settings on your Android phone
- Tap Apps (or Applications)
- Find and tap Mazhali
- Tap Notifications
- Toggle the main switch to ON
- Adjust notification type (Alerts, Sounds, Badges)
In Your Browser (Web App)
When you first log in to Mazhali in your browser, you may see a prompt asking for notification permission. Tap Allow. If you missed it, you can enable notifications in your browser settings.
Multiple Devices
If you’re logged into Mazhali on multiple devices (phone and tablet, for example), notifications go to all of them. This ensures you see important updates no matter which device you’re using.
If you don’t want notifications on a particular device, disable them in that device’s notification settings.
Multiple Children
If you have multiple children, you’ll receive separate notifications for each child. All notifications still go to the same account, but they’re organized by child so you always know whose update you’re getting.
Example:
- “Aisha was marked present at 8:45 AM”
- “Kai’s daily report is ready”
What If You’re Not Getting Notifications?
If you should be receiving notifications but aren’t, try these steps:
- Check your device settings: Make sure notifications are enabled for Mazhali in your phone or browser settings
- Check app permissions: Go to your phone’s app settings and confirm Mazhali has permission to send notifications
- Check your Do Not Disturb settings: If your phone is in Do Not Disturb mode, notifications may be silenced
- Restart the app: Close Mazhali completely and reopen it
- Reinstall if needed: Uninstall and reinstall Mazhali from Google Play (Android), or remove and re-add to Home Screen if using the PWA
- Contact your school: If nothing works, reach out to your school admin—they can help troubleshoot
